December, 1999 Foundry Rescues GSI Project In Time For 1999 Holiday Shopping Season McLEAN, VA -- What started as a back-up contingency plan had become the crucial effort for a major e-commerce initiative from six top sports retailers. On short notice and under extreme pressure, Foundry, Inc. of McLean, Virginia was called in to save the day for Global Sports Interactive (GSI), a joint effort of six sporting goods retailers. During an increasingly difficult relationship with a prominent web development and design firm, GSI became concerned about their ability to meet the launch deadline of December 1999. The system powering the back-end had to function well enough to handle the upcoming Christmas shopping season, which was being announced as the breakthrough for e-commerce (and certainly took its toll on many unprepared e-tailers). Contacting Foundry was fortuitous indeed. Foundry completed all the back-end development and JSP integration for the Web stores on time, even accomodating additional requirements changes during the development. In addition to the back-end work, Foundry teamed with another local firm, The Berndt Group, to finish layout production. The stores delivered were Dunhams, Sports Chalet, The Sports Authority, The Athlete's Foot, and MC Sports. One of the stores lost funding and was not delivered as a result.
